Good morning, it’s Zephyr here!
Today’s date brings a high‑voltage mix of AI innovation and industry shake‑ups. We’ve got Baidu rolling out MuseSteamer to turn images into business videos, and OpenAI taking a firm stand against Robinhood’s “OpenAI tokens.” Here are the top six stories shaping the AI world today:
Baidu has launched MuseSteamer, a new AI video generator for businesses that turns images into 10-second videos. Available in Turbo, Pro, and Lite versions, it’s part of Baidu’s push to stay competitive in China’s growing AI scene. The company also upgraded its search engine with smarter results, voice and image input, and longer queries. Unlike rivals, Baidu’s video tool is business-only for now, with no consumer version announced.
Black Forest Labs has launched FLUX.1 Kontext, a new AI model that combines image generation and editing using natural language — no complex workflows needed. Optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs with TensorRT, it runs up to 2x faster with lower memory requirements. Artists can now easily make precise, step-by-step edits using just text and images. The model is available now on Hugging Face and ComfyUI.
OpenAI has publicly rejected Robinhood’s new “OpenAI tokens,” warning they do not represent equity in the company and were launched without its approval. Robinhood claims the tokens offer indirect exposure via a special purpose vehicle, but OpenAI made clear it does not endorse or support the effort. The tokens mimic share prices but are not actual stock, raising concerns about misleading retail investors.
Amazon’s Andy Jassy says AI will automate certain roles, reducing headcount, but also create new and more engaging jobs in AI and robotics. As Amazon and Microsoft cut thousands of positions, they continue pouring billions into AI development. Jassy highlighted AI agents as a key area of growth, calling them a major step forward. Despite layoffs, 84% of tech leaders say they plan to expand their workforce in the coming months.
OpenAI has signed a massive $30 billion annual deal with Oracle to lease 4.5 gigawatts of computing power, marking one of the largest AI cloud contracts ever. The move supports OpenAI’s Stargate project with SoftBank to rapidly scale global data center infrastructure. Oracle will build new centers across the US and power them with 400,000 Nvidia chips. The deal signals OpenAI’s shift beyond Microsoft as it races to meet growing AI demand.
Perplexity has rolled out a new $200-per-month subscription tier called Perplexity Max, aimed at power users like researchers and strategists. The plan includes unlimited use of its agentic Labs tool, early access to features like the new Comet web browser, priority support, and access to top models from OpenAI and Anthropic. It joins other AI giants like OpenAI and Anthropic in offering high-end premium tiers.
