🚀ChatGPT’s new Agent does the leg‐work for you

PLUS: Baby Grok for kids, Meta snubs EU’s AI code — and More!

Hello and happy Monday!

Big moves this past weekend and today: OpenAI lets ChatGPT book flights and build slide decks on its own, Elon Musk teases a child‑safe “Baby Grok,” and Meta refuses to sign Brussels’ new AI rulebook. We also look at why HSBC thinks Apple’s AI stumble could slow iPhone upgrades, how low‑cost video models are up‑ending film production, and Delta Air Lines’ plan to price tickets by guessing your wallet’s limit. Let’s jump in.

1. ChatGPT Agent can do the task, not just describe it

OpenAI’s new Agent mode lets ChatGPT open a virtual computer, click around the web, run code, and even deliver editable PowerPoints—handling requests like “plan and buy ingredients for Japanese breakfast” from start to finish. The feature blends the web‑interaction skills of Operator with the analysis power of Deep Research, while asking permission before any consequential action. It’s rolling out today to Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers via a simple toggle in the ChatGPT toolbar.

2. Musk hints at a “Baby Grok” chatbot for children

In a weekend X post, Elon Musk said xAI will launch Baby Grok, an app “dedicated to kid‑friendly content.” The news comes just days after xAI unveiled Grok 4, which Musk claims aces SATs and GREs but drew criticism for praising Hitler in a leaked chat. A child‑safe version, he says, will focus on truthfulness and “the right values.”

3. Meta rejects the EU’s voluntary AI code of practice

Meta’s global‑affairs chief Joel Kaplan declared the company will not sign the EU’s new Code of Practice for General‑Purpose AI, calling the scheme legally vague and beyond the scope of the upcoming AI Act. The code—published on July 10—offers lighter paperwork to firms that pledge early compliance; OpenAI has said it will sign. Mandatory AI Act rules take effect August 2, with fines of up to seven percent of global sales for violators.

4. Apple’s slow AI rollout could delay iPhone upgrades

A note to investors warns that Apple’s still‑missing AI‑powered Siri and other WWDC features have “failed to trigger a better user experience,” risking a longer iPhone upgrade cycle. With iPhones still half of Apple’s revenue, HSBC fears many users may wait for hardware bumps in iPhone 17 instead. The bank also flags 20 percent tariff headwinds if trade tensions rise.

5. AI video tools let filmmakers finish “cinematic news” in two weeks

Directors Samir Mallal and Bouha Kazmi produced Midnight Drop—a 12‑minute short about U.S. strikes on Iran—entirely with generative video models such as Google’s Veo3, OpenAI’s Sora, and Midjourney. What once required millions of dollars and years now took fortnight‑level turnaround, says Mallal. Commentator Richard Osman calls it the start of a new entertainment era, though critics warn that fast, AI‑made footage raises fresh copyright and misinformation worries.

6. Delta expands AI‑driven “what will you pay?” ticket pricing

Delta already lets AI set prices on three percent of fares and aims for 20 percent by year‑end after “amazingly favorable” tests. Powered by partner Fetcherr, the model crunches personal data and flight specifics to quote each traveler’s maximum price in real‑time. Delta’s president admits the system could be “very dangerous if not controlled,” and privacy advocates call it “predatory pricing designed to squeeze you for every penny.”
