1. DeepSeek delays new model over Huawei chips

DeepSeek postponed the debut of its next AI model after attempts to train it on Huawei hardware fell short, according to a Financial Times report cited by Reuters. The setback highlights the difficulty of swapping U.S. chips for domestic alternatives, especially at the high-performance thresholds cutting-edge models require. It is a reminder that China’s drive for self-reliance in AI silicon still faces practical performance and tooling gaps.

2. Apple’s animated Siri could become your smart-home hub

Apple is exploring a more visual, conversational Siri that could appear on a tabletop robot and a new smart-home display, with a camera for face recognition to personalize what you see. Bloomberg’s reporting, summarized by The Verge, points to a 2027 goal for the robot and a smart display planned around mid-2026. Apple is also prototyping wheeled home robots and planning security cameras, all tied to a Siri powered by large language models.

3. xAI cofounder Igor Babuschkin leaves to start a safety-focused fund

Igor Babuschkin announced he is leaving xAI to launch Babuschkin Ventures, a firm he says will back AI safety research and startups with long-term benefits. In posts on X, the engineer reflected on helping build xAI since 2023 and on lessons learned working closely with Elon Musk. His exit comes after months of scrutiny of Grok’s behavior, even as xAI touts strong benchmark results.

4. Microsoft’s “Agent Factory” maps how to ship agentic AI

Microsoft’s Azure team published concrete patterns for building task-doing agents, not just answer-giving chatbots. Examples include tool-use agents that call APIs and complete transactions, reflection loops that self-check outputs, planning agents that break goals into steps, and multi-agent orchestration that lets specialists collaborate. Case studies cite Fujitsu cutting proposal time by 67 percent and ContraForce automating about 80 percent of incident response for under one dollar per incident.

5. Foxconn’s profit jumps as AI servers overtake iPhones

Foxconn’s Q2 net profit rose 27 percent to T$44.4 billion, beating forecasts, as demand for AI servers from cloud giants kept climbing. The company expects third-quarter revenue growth, with AI server revenue projected to leap more than 170 percent year over year, and says its cloud and networking unit out-earned smart consumer electronics for the first time. Foxconn plans to raise capital spending by over 20 percent and expand server production in Texas and Wisconsin.

6. Google to invest $9 billion in Oklahoma for AI and cloud

Google announced a two-year, $9 billion investment to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in Oklahoma, including a new data-center campus in Stillwater and growth at Pryor. The plan pairs infrastructure with workforce programs, such as free AI Career Certificates and an AI for Education Accelerator for the state’s major universities. Google also aims to boost the electrical workforce pipeline through a training initiative that targets a 135 percent increase.
