1. Mistral unleashes Voxtral, an Apache‑2 licensed “speech GPT”

Mistral AI has open‑sourced two Voxtral models — 24 B parameters for production and 3 B for edge — plus a transcription‑only Mini that costs $0.001 per minute via API. Beyond top‑tier ASR, Voxtral does in‑audio Q&A, summarization and function‑calling straight from voice, with automatic language detection across nine major tongues. Benchmarks show it beats Whisper large‑v3 and ElevenLabs Scribe on every test while halving inference cost. Downloads are live on Hugging Face; Le Chat voice mode rolls out “in weeks.”

2. Thinking Machines Lab raises $2 B seed at a $12 B valuation

Ex‑OpenAI CTO Mira Murati closed one of Silicon Valley’s biggest first rounds ever, led by Andreessen Horowitz with Nvidia, Accel, ServiceNow, Cisco, AMD and Jane Street in tow. Still in stealth, the year‑old startup says its debut product will be “multimodal and partly open source,” arriving within months. Murati has already lured OpenAI co‑founders John Schulman and Barret Zoph, signaling serious ambitions to train frontier‑scale models.

3. Copilot Vision now reads your entire Windows desktop

Microsoft’s latest Insider build lets Copilot Vision analyze “any app or the whole desktop” after you click a new glasses icon, similar to sharing a screen on a video call. The AI can coach you through rĂ©sumĂ© tweaks, design critiques or game strategies and still works with live camera input on mobile. Unlike the paused Recall feature, Vision activates only when you ask, aiming to soothe privacy fears.

4. Google pledges $25 B for AI‑ready energy and skills in Pennsylvania

At the state’s Energy & Innovation Summit, Alphabet president Ruth Porat announced plans to invest over $25 billion in PJM‑region data centers within two years and $3 billion to modernize two hydropower plants. A new AI Works for America program will train workers, while free AI courses roll out to every small business in the Commonwealth. Google also highlighted a corporate PPA for fusion energy and grants to expand America’s electrical‑worker pipeline.

5. Anthropic debuts Claude for Financial Services bundle

The new Financial Analysis Solution unifies feeds from Databricks, FactSet, Snowflake and more, offering traceable answers with direct source links. Claude Opus 4 tops Vals AI’s Finance Agent benchmark and, inside FundamentalLabs, passed 5 of 7 Financial Modeling World Cup levels with 83 % accuracy. Early adopters Bridgewater and Norway’s NBIM report double‑digit productivity gains and hundreds of thousands of analyst hours saved. AWS Marketplace listings go live today; Google Cloud to follow.

6. AI chat answers are eating traditional SEO, warn marketers

PYMNTS Intelligence finds chatbots like ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews increasingly answer queries without a click‑through, eroding the traffic lifeline small businesses rely on. Experts urge SMBs to pivot to structured data, FAQ schemas and brand authority to get surfaced inside generative answers. “The traditional SEO game is breaking down,” says Winsome Marketing’s Joy Youell; inclusion in an AI summary is the new Page One.
